So in total 2.5 million sold, goes the good way with the Vita.

Chris Toph said...

now put good games on it.

Kevi Johnson-el said...

2.5 million is pretty good so far the vita seems to be picking up some speed

The US is much, much larger (area-wise) than Japan, and is about three times larger by population. Isn't this to be expected?

Awesome!

Well there's more people living in America than the UK but if you add all vitas sold and divide by the population you would fine the UK has a bigger market.
I live in North Wales and every week I hear how statistically we have more obese people than London......well London house a lot more, probably 10 times more people than north Wales so Ofcourse 'statistic wise' we may have more obese but it's not very accurate......now Erm where was I!?!?!
Long live the vita!

That's the price Sony has to pay for not having a Monster Hunter for the Vita.

This only counts top five markets, PSvita has actually sold around four million mark

2012 has been a very slow year with a slow start for the Vita but I honestly think that 2013 will be a turning point for the amazing handheld gaming system. Everyone seems to forget that it took a while for the 3DS to get off the ground and look at how that is doing now. The Vita will play a big part in the next gen PlayStation and with figures like that, things are looking good.

Atelier games in North America now Sony. make it happen.

Louis Samolinoff said...

that could actually turn out good. there'll be less faceless all-look-alike anime games and more memorable games

Slowzrally said...

Why would I want to increase sales in japan? I want more sales in america so they stop preferring the japanese market over the american. Screw japan, give america more games. And don't destroy them like you did black ops.

MarcusGOW said...

Ummmmm... Who the hell would want monster hunter/huntress when we got Soul Sacrifice?

MarcusGOW said...

We have games...& Alotta games are coming out 2013.

Mattno200 said...

you got monster hunter via psp title in psp for vita in psn. who need another version

Owais1wolverine said...

Good,Now more western games please!

MrKoopan said...

but nintendo got their shit together, and fast, sony can push the amazing PS Plus on us all they want, but that can't last forever, it needs a price cut now, it's needed one forever, 2013 will be good for it though, I have faith in it, soul sacrifice is great, that should give it a push

Tony R P Jr87 said...

Anime games are good too and i think they need to bring ps2 classics from the ps3 psn to the psn on the vita and i think we should have the home app on the vita and what happen to the ps1 updates coming to the vita?

I'm more than thrilled to be one of the 900k in the U.S.  I love this system AND the games so far; also, I don't miss my 3DS at all.  If you're on the fence about purchasing one, pull the trigger - you'll be glad you did.  I just wish Sony published a magazine that devoted more than a marginal amount of attention to their portable masterpiece.  There's no comparison between this and the PSP.  I considered the latter to be less than impressive - not so with this little guy.

Daverost said...

I'd say it's probably close between U.S. and Japan. These only account for 2012 numbers, where the Vita hasn't been out for a full year yet in the U.S. Once it hits its first year, it should be higher than Japan's first year, but Japan passed 1 million units in its first year and we're just past 900k here with two months to go in the U.S. So is the U.S. a top supporter? Yes. Is it the biggest market? Well, not yet, but it could be. We don't have an accurate measure yet. It'll probably be a little bigger than Japan's market after that year, but given the difference in population, that's not very impressive. 2013 will make or break the Vita in all regions as software development and word of mouth shape its popularity.

Soul Sacrifice will get it :P The Demo really was awesome! can't wait for the full game these 2013., these coming year will be theirs I swear.

Pedro Devera said...

2.038.058 Vitas sold worldwide. This is a bad figure. It should've been about 4 million units at least by now.

This makes me sad because, in my opinion, this can make alot of diference on the kind of games we get. I dont like western games AT ALL, I am just not that into open world and GTA style games....I got my vita for real games, with chalanges and stuff, not just whores to slap on the go like gta....really, western games are everything I didnt want when I got this console.....sad face sad.

MarcusGOW said...

Where do you get that? This is just top 5 sales NOT TOTAL sales of Vita. The Vita has sold over 4 million units.

Diamond Ammo said...

3ds sells better because parents buy it for their kids as a gift. The market for the vita is core gamers which is alot smaller than the 3ds's target audience

Diamond Ammo said...

I recently got my vita, I'm 19 and my dad got me one at the beginning of december as a early christmas gift for lending him money 3 months ago for whatever reason he never told me( strip club?)

anyways so far I've played uncharted, call of duty( it came with the system), resistence, jet set radio, gravity rush and modnation racers and mlb 12 the show oh and little big planet and I am about to buy persona 4 golden

I have owned a 3ds since launch, I liked it, kid icarus and resident evil revelations are the best on the system imo and one of the best games I have played this generation. Notice how I said LIKED.

The people who say vita has no games  are in complete denial or have never even touched a vita or know anything about the game library. The vita imo has a better library than the 3ds, the games have more of a variety, 3ds is like for every great original game there is 3 mario games that follow it. That got old really fast.

The vita has a more quality game library and you don't have to dig through all the shovelware( haha get it?) to find a great quality game

Nintendo seems to forget that this is almost 2013. The 3ds is still stuck with friend codes! The vita's online features are as good as xbox live! You have a party feature which includes voice chat! You have trophies(achievements) you have a real account with YOUR OWN username! Not something like a phone number!

the eshop is terrible! Come on Nintendo! I don't even have to explain how much more content the vita has!

Let's talk about playstation plus, the best deal in gaming I have ever seen in my life. You either pay 20 bucks for 3 months of service or 50 for a year. What this does is give you a selection of FREE, that's right I said FREE games, They are not games that nobody cares about either they are FULL VITA GAMES, Uncharted golden abyss is on there too! They change the games every month! So basicly your whole vita library can be living off the ps plus account! a year's membership is 50 bucks, the average vita game is 20-40 bucks, YOU JUST SAVED HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!!! Hell yes!

oh and vita has youtube, a basic yet the most entertaining non gaming app any gaming system can have

ds raped the psp but this generation In my opinion it's the other way around.

Have a nice day!

I took my vita on holiday to Amsterdam. Call of duty was awesome in the coffeeshops. Love this system so much.

Think of all the time it takes to develop a good game.    Anyone bashing the Vita before 2014 is an idiot, GOOD games that are not ports, take at least a good 2 years to develop.   That's why Black Ops Declassified was so shitty, Bend studios had a while to develop Uncharted.   Persona Golden, Mortal Kombat, etc are ports.   Street Fighter X Tekken in my opinion is the best port of a game, because it takes EVERYTHING from the console, and expands on it.

MrKoopanbasher said...

Get a job, who cares about a price cut, those that want the Vita, are going to get it when the time is right.   If you can afford 7 bucks a pack for smokes, 8 dollars for a beer in a public place, 50-200 dollars for a WORTHLESS WASTE OF MONEY TATTOO, you can afford to cut back for a month and buy a Vita.

There are some good games on it already, the viability is reduced if you already own a PSP, and most games digitally, but features take time, especially if you have to add it into the firmware.    When the Vita launched, there were very few PSP games, there were no PS1 games, mini's were unsupported.   You couldn't use facebook, foursquare, netflix, email, content manager couldn't transfer over wifi on a PC, there was no playstation plus or online backing up your saves.   Remote Play got patched into 4 games, will it ever support the 3000 PS3 games?   No, and unless they plan on multiporting a lot of games, they should consider addding it in via a paid addon that way you can pick and choose.

I would gladly give Sony or whatever company $10 to play Skyrim AND OR Dark Souls via Remote Play, same with other games.

Pedro, you're a moron, go back to your Wii/DS

Nintendo is geared towards kids, correct.   Mario, Sonic, Kirby, etc have always been targetted that way, and as long as it's successful, why change it?

However, there are some games on the Vita that are friendly for all ages.   A lot of people are saying the price is what hurts the Vita.   I honestly disagree, the larger a game library, the more word of mouth, and the more people that actually get to play a Vita, that is what will draw customers in.

When developers actually start making original, high quality games for the Vita, that is when you will see the Vita taking off.   And with the touch screen capabilities, it DOES have the ability to run MMO's, especially if a company can develop a grip with a built in keypad kinda like the PS3 and Xbox controller have.

Phantasy Star Online 2
Final Fantasy 11

If these 2 MMO's take off, and do very well on the Vita, how many other companies will follow suit?

Diablo 3 would be amazing on a handheld.   And it would work.   Left analog moves the character, the right analog holds your character in place while attacking.

X O Triangle Square, 1 2 3 4 buttons, Left mouse is L, Right mouse is R, town portal can be select, and a hotkey for your inventory is Start.

BShornock said...

Well said, you got some good statements here.

2013 will make or break the Vita.   A lot of hype is on Killzone Mercenary to deliver where Call of Duty falls short(Multiplayer is still pretty good, but unstable even with 2 large patches)

With touch screen capabilities, strategy games, and MMO's now become far easier to play, since you can touch the hotkeys or map your big 4 to the face bottons, it will be interesting to see when and if games for the Vita are developed in this genre, which are weak to consoles.

Soul Sacrifice will either be a great game, or a flop, it depends on the gameplay.

Warrior's Lair is a Diablo clone in some aspects, but with the long development time, maybe they had some time to reflect on Diablo 3 and change/add things to give it a longer story with greater replayability?

Like all countries, some games will support better regions, FIFA is always strong in the UK, games like Uncharted will dominate the US, and some games will do better in Japan(though Persona, like Final Fantasy, has strong support in the US, whereas games like Ragnarok Odyssey, not as much)

MrKoopan said...

I have a job, asshole, but other people don't like to justify spending $300 on one, I like the thing, but it'll fail if it doesn't drop its price, also, I don't have any of those things (smoking, tattoos, and drinking suck) but a lot of people care to have a price cut, and features may take time, but small ones don't, hackers have already made the thing better than sony has, because we, the consumer, care more about it than them

fuck you and have a good day
nice name, by the way

Most parent wont pay 250 when they can get their kid a wii 99.99 or xbox 199.99 or ps 3 249.99. Not to mention sales and promotions. Alot of people also may consider the bundle purchase and notice 4gb card and think to themself "wow small". Then look over 16 inches and see 32gb card for 99.99. Im covered in thousands of dollars worth tattoos, smoke, and drink. Have all the systems because i like video games and variety. Maybe next time you stereotype some ones money managment you instead say RENT, CAR/TRANSPORTATION, FOOD, BILLS and OTHER COSTS. Shallow

Is it right to equate volume of sales to biggest market? If you base models sold by population America is probably one of the worst markets. And little old UK probably one of the largest?

Just saying!

I heard Sony said they want the Vita to last 10 years, can anyone verify this? (It's good news if it's real)

Morky said...

Goto Wikipedia and look at the titles that are going to be released (at least expected to be) 2013 will triple the Vita's game lineup. And if they expand on their PSOne titles, than we should be happy.

Morky said...

You bring up kinda a good point. I paid full price for the Vita but It's not uncommon for companies to sell the units at a loss because they make money on licensing, this is what Nintendo bets on. Also, EA and other developers pay Sony to make games for it and so on, a percentage of sales go to Sony too. Sony is a behemoth company and they know their 'brand' is worth it. Thats why they piss consumers with overpriced gear most of the time. It's a gamble but they've been pretty good at it for many years. The Vita will come down in price - give it some time if your not ready for it ... yet. The flip of the coin is the price-point of the games. Im a PC gamer and the PC has some EPIC games that are under $50, yet the Vita's best sellers are about $40 (average), I dont personally feel that Uncharted: Golden Abyss for example, is worth the $35 its priced at, because its just too short, I expect more game for my money. Game prices are kinda high on the Vita and I think that can break a consoles back.. fast. We can also talk about the insane (f&^% insane) memory card prices. I think Sony knew that people would eat that memory up on the PS Market fast and intentionally put a steep price point on it, but their paying the price for these little  things in sales... Give it time, its like poker - they'll budge sooner or later. Im hopeful for the unit - its bad ass and I love it.
