Sony UK Boss Fergal Gara has confirmed that PS Vita will be getting a price cut in 2013, more details inside..........
Sony UK boss Fergal Gara confirmed at the Eurogamer Expo today that the PlayStation Vita will receive a price cut in 2013, DigitalSpy reports.Gara said that the price reduction will be coming next year but the precise date and amount is "still under discussion".
He told Eurogamer: "We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when. We won't have an across the board pricedown this Christmas.
But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling."We will be working that very hard over the coming weeks as more and more software arrives."
Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida previously said that the PlayStation Vita will not receive a price cut in 2012.

Well, that's great news!
Sony...you are beginning to suck!
Not good news at all. This means sony is giving up and will likely end the life and support of the Vita (in North America) far before Vita owners think, just as in the life of PSP
The only thing that is keepingmefrom smashing my vita right now is assassins creed
Dfq...They just announced that Vita's life cycle will be of 10 years...
yeah, they said the same thing about Vita lol
That's why I don't buy console games that focus on the multiplayer aspect...
Same here.
You couldn't smash it if you tried. The thing is like a brick.
I can understand why you are saying that, but a price cut could mean a new line of PSVs made with cheaper parts which would result in a bigger production, and if the prrduction increases they can cut the price of the Vita. Unless they don't raise the production a price cut is putting them in straight financial danger.
And the Vita
And also the Vita
hey all you people saying "omfg the end of ther vita, they are giving up, lets smash ours now". i seem to remember another handheld that had a veryryyyyy early price drop and is doing quite well. the 3ds... calm the fuk down peeps
To echo so many before me, I think the Vita is dead, I was giving it through the holidays to really step up and announce something big, the cross-buy was a huge boost adding potentially hundreds of dollars in value, but I don't think they pounced of getting developers working on exclusive titles pre-launch and now they have built a weak reputation that is pushing studios to mobile platforms (Sony recently halted production on a Vita AAA title). While I love the Vita and think it has a ton of potential, I am fairly convinced that this potential will be largely unrealized. 6,000 copies of LBP were sold in Japan opening week....6,000....CoD is going to be a flop and will send a shockwave of developers running from the (dead) platform. Sony's scramble to get developers after the fact is a bad sign. They needed to have a robust field of developers working on this platform to make it competitive. All hope is not lost, but it is increasingly doubtful that the Vita will ever rise to the levels it could have achieved if Sony had acted sooner.
I meant the PSP lol
Sorry i meant, they said the same thing about the PSP. That they would support the PSP for at least 10 years. While it had a shorter life, the PSP had much better sales when it launched, I love my Vita, I really hope that the Vita does better because it's an amazing machine and i love the ability that it carries but in any case i hope you are right. The Vita deserves a good life.
And in other new news 'a bear s**ts in the woods' and 'some catholic priests abuse children'
Seriously, captain state-the-bloody obvious is at the door.
Lol, yeah, there's this guy on YT trying to smash it with a baseball bat. He smashed it 6 times as hard as he could and only the 7th time he inflicted a significant amount of damage.
Same thoughts here. I'll always have faith in it. Its glorious moment has to come sooner or later.
3DS had a price drop and even more people bought it. Same thing should happen to the Vita.
^ This, its actually quite laughable that people think the Vita will suceed, I think alot of people are in denial 'give it time' they shout 'wait till the games come' It wont, the Vita is amazing but it is the Dreamcast of the handheld world I and many other saw it coming. People who want console experience buy guess what? a console! hand held are by nature a casual medium and that will never change
I don't think that the Vita is "Truely" dead or even metaphorically. I think the Vita is simply "Asleep". I think Sony has something up it's sleeve about the Vita that they want to save until after the release of the WiiU. I think they are making us wait for something on purpose, Sony is smart, look at what they did at gamescon this year. they stole the show. Sony may look as though they are playing dumb for a bit but you don't know what is happening behind closed doors to make that call. i think 2013 will be great for Sony. it's Sony's turn again and history has a strange way of repeating itself. The people who are saying that Vita is dead are fooling themselves ;) Those people have yet to understand that the mobile gaming industry is really quite different from the console gaming spectrum of it.
Call Of Duty may be great or may be Bad. Have you considered it may be average enough for you to enjoy and not enough to inspire nor scare off developers to or fro the Vita?
Lastly, Sony is not scrambling for developers, if that was a case then they could get small-town developers to make games for Vita quite easily. This is another sign that Sony is sitting back, waiting on something bigger than you can comprehend. And this is why you are not a Sony chairman. I would give the Vita until 2013 or 2014 to see developers (and Sony) to take true advantages of the system... JUST AS ANY SYSTEM

they should do it when the big games like killzone mercenary and sly cooper comes cause thats gonna boost sales
i do not think the vita's price is too high. 300 dollars/euro's is a realistic price with 3g for a fantastic device. sony is a company who can make strong platforms and the vita is their cown jewel. all sony needs to do now is focussing on software and advertising!!
playstation vita is a fantastic, dedicated gaming platform. The specs and games it has no other handheld could handle. It wipes the floor with its big brother the PSP, for gods sake it took its games from it ha ha ha, It completely kills the 3DS in terms of what it can handle. It needs a massive marketing campaign. hell i didnt even know it was coming out until a week before release (i got mine day one) and more games. The thing is though, it has some great games and lets not forget the its not even a year old. Lets not judge it too early. These days we expect everything soon but things take time to grow. The ps3 was rubbish on sales the first year because it was expensive, Xbox struggled to compete with sony in its first attempt at a console. The psp only suffered because of pirating scumbags. Even the 3DS has struggled in its first few months. The vita is perfect. A handheld for more dedicated gamers. When DEVS get used to what it can do the games will become better. LittleBigPlanet is a fantastic game, FIFA FOOTBALL looks brilliant!! Be proud of your handheld. Those that complain about the price are just too tight to buy one, and those that rip it are those who are poor.
No... just... no.
about time :)
You are right on point. The only price that needs to be dropped is the memory cards!
I think you are wrong. While i don't mind paying this kind of money for a handheld, i can see a lot of people having trouble to pay this amount of money for a handheld which has nearly no absolute must-have games. For the same money, i could've bought either a playstation 3 or a xbox360 and i would've if i didn't already have those. For people who don't have a home console yet and are looking for affordable, quality games, i find it hard to recommend the Vita. Don't get me wrong, i love it to death and i think that the current price is good for the very solid hardware you receive, but for all the potential customers who are still out there, i think a pricecut will be something to look forward to.
Saying sony just needs to work on advertising and more games is too shortsighted. It's obvious that advertisements alone won't save the system from it's current course, and games won't make themselves. The games are developed by the game companies and will they make games for the Vita, which doesn't sell very well, which means lower potential profits, or for another console/handheld, which yields a higher potential profit? I'll give you a hint, they choose more money. The only way for the vita to break out of it's current negative trend is to lower the prices, maybe even halve the prices, in order to get a bigger customer base and show the game devs that there is a lot of profit to be made on the system. They screwed up by not selling the system right to the gamedevs, resulting in a very poor launch line-up and post-release support. Now we have only a handful of games to look forward to, and i think it's a waste to spend €250 on a system with virtually no great games if, for the same amount of money, you could've bought a system that has dozens of great games at good prices.
i will give it until this year its over, but i think its dead. Im only using it for netflix now how pathetic is that.
Psp games are still beign developed for :l
they better gime sumthing for paying full price.
LBP is on my must have list
id say more crazy games are needed on it too like a new dbz, digimon action/adventure game, even a final fantasy action game close to like decidia even kingdom hearts i liked birth by sleepowh and devil may cry for vita too
