Sony Explains Why So Few PSOne Classics Are Available In The US

Though the EU PSN Store has over 100 PSOne titles, the US store has around 9, Sony explains why, more details inside.........

The US PSN store has only 9 directly downloadable PS Vita compatible PSOne titles while the EU store has over a 100, Sony have revealed why this is:
Each territory is completely unique and must go through its own individual processes for approvals in order to be available for purchase directly on PS Vita through PlayStation Store. We work collaboratively with all parties involved, including third party publishers, to ensure that we are following the proper protocol. As of right now, there are nine PS one classics titles available on the PS Vita store, however we are working hard to expand this list as soon as possible.
Let us know if this is an excuse or if its true in the comments below!

Doesn't really explain anything.

Still trying to figure out if this is a technical issue or, as I suspect, an intellectual property rights/legal thing.

Blah blah blah....

I expect to see more PsOne games next week.
Now chop chop !!!

That does not explain anything, its made to 'look like' it is explaining something. Typical by-the-book business way of trying to keep a negative a positive... once you have worked for enough large organisations and are told by your managers to write/say pointless bull like this enough times yourself you soon learn to recognize when other organisations are doing it.

lol are you George from Masterchef Australia?

Explain me please why there are a lot of classics that work fine right now but Sony US can only name nine.

Wow, Ill give you credit that I am from Australia lol

This is a complete bullshit story!
if sony wants to be successfull once again, they have to stop making these falls excuses.
stop talking and start the production of more awesome high quality games!! it is better to say nothing and blow people away at a event, then hyping 12 months long and deliver a shit game or just a different release date (like GT)!
sony has to realize that people are not stupid! consumers and game developers are losing faith in sony because they are lying too much, and everything is taking too much time!!
not to mension that from  everything they promise only 60% is a 100% true. sony's first words are always more exiting then the outcome. a very bad habit!!
not words, but deeds. that is wat we want right now.
sony slowly writes letters on their own tombstone because they still retain this strategy since ps2 left the battlefield.
they have an iron plate in their heads. and it is about time that someone is going to wake them from this icy sleep. if sony still wants those glory days from back in the psone and ps2 timeline. then they really need to make the change!
F.G.S!!

Legal thing, they just need to ask the developers permission to allow the ps1 game to be sold on the vita store. If they didn't get permission.. well that's how law suites and why people get sued, just Sony covering there backs.
If they didn't ask and just let people download the developers games on another device, it wont be in the contracts and such, and they will sue, you know how money hungry company's can be these days.
The last thing we need is Sony getting sued for billions by hundreds of company's, we wouldn't see any support for the PS Vita then for about 6 years whilst they were paying and saving themselves from various debts.

This is unacceptable! It's just like sex either do it right or don't do it at all! I'm so disappointed in Sony right now. There are alot of good PSN Mini's, and PSP games, that should be able to be played on our Vita's.

And not everyone owns a PS3 to do PS1 transfer. And they shouldn't have to!

So sad Sony..............you once sold this titles on the US and now you need approval for something that once in the market again.............damn........

its sony being sony, they have been nothing less then a tease! i have been buy the company since literally day 2 and as of late ive been very disapointed, i feel they through the vita out way to soon and didnt back up any promises (remote play, game selection and compatibility with other sony devices) the memory card price is outragous and these latest excuses are bullshit!!

This is where the term prior planning prevents piss poor performance comes into play. Sony knew BEFORE the Vita launched that they intended to allow it to play PS1 titles. Why not work out whatever kinks, approvals, etc. beforehand so that we would have a full library available by the time they rolled out the update? You mean to tell me that no one thought of this?! I'm fortunate to have a PS3 where I can just copy the titles but what about people who don't own a PS3???

Well i live in japan thats worse, Looks like Europe got the best deal, im thinking of ditching for a psp

Pscyche3000 said...

I just downloaded metal gear, resident evil and crash team racing, that will keep me happy til assasins creed comes out on vita

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

Please kick rocks! Anyone with at least common sense can see that with Sony giving over 100 PS1 games to the UK and over 400 to Japan there is no respect for the 30 something titles we have in the USA!

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

You Sir speak the truth!

seekshelter said...

this is just the direct download option thats limited. you can still purchase all the other psone titles on the website or ps3 and then just use the content manager to move them over.

Kelseys92 said...

AG23.. thats exactly my point! its like PS3 is important if you you want to have many games in your vita.. i still cant afford my own ps3 and will have no choice but to buy one game which costs too much :(

btw, still a kid here . .only got my vita as a gift..

Rob Howarth said...

So here's the problem Sony : I like Bushido Blade 1 and 2  ... but I live in the UK and it's only available in Japan on PSone classics for PS3. I have a Japan account on my PS3 ... but my vita is tied to my EU account as are the games I've downloaded / resistance multiplayer code. I own the original PS1 discs for both. I have been able to play them on my mobile phone using an emulator and on my hacked PSP for ages now. But on my nice new vita I can't even give you money to play it !

P.S. I hate hacking kit (I'm too old for that shit) but seems yet again I have no choice due to Sony incompetence.

I WANT MGS1 *o*, so then i'd have mgs 1 2 3 and peace walker on my ps vita, the ultimate collection

whatwhat3t said...

umm how about some new content? i dunno about you guys, but i didnt shell out $300 to play some old ass games lol.

in this case I have to agree with elron. Not only are the games up on the store already, but this functionality got mention when the Vita was announced. Unacceptable.

They should've worked on all of this back then.

I was dissapounted for this one too, luckily I own a ps3 and I already transfered it.

Justin Foster said...

Thanks for this info! Too bad I have to manually search for the games to find them.

It's a bummer but at the same time PSone titles are the least of my worry. I'd rather they focus more attention on the actual Vita instead of rehashing and distributing old games. I know new games are coming in the next three months, some killer ones at that, but man.. Think how well off they could be if they got their damn priorities straight.

Sony needs to start firing some people and getting new fresh faces in there. People that are more familiar with current demands.  I also feel some of the prices on these psone titles are way too much.  I don't think it's right to charge $10 bucks for a 14 year old game, but eh. What do I know?

That's just my opinion though.

Lol said...

It doesn't make sense, if SOJ and SOE got permission why wouldn't SOA get permission on basically the same games on the same platform.

Minkriff Joseph said...

there are actually over 30

Minkriff Joseph said...

now they have over 30 titles available.

Dan said...

I don't own a PS3 to do the transfer.... I hope it comes out soon. I got FFVII and am enjoying it but LoD would be so sick.

PLanning on buying populous. Lol that game is awesome. I played it on my old pc.

Whodiditandran1 said...

whatwhat3t u r right my friend. Why not port over ps2 games instead. Imagine playing san andreas on the go. How about ps3 games since sony sold it as a portable ps3. Im tired of the promises that they cant keep.

Pupp said...

Gentlemens, those are quite standard copyright issues. It sucks but deal with it. It will be the same in the apple store too. maybe someone should start a nice pirate "store" that ignore the copybullsht.

Dimy93 said...

Sth tells me that legaly it's harder in US for Sony to bring the classics to Vita's PSN

Kayoss860 said...

I think the article explains it. Its a region issue. it doesnt matter the platform but more on restrictions from certain regions and country.
Honestly, how much can you download on a 32gb hard drive. Ff7 and Ff8 should last you a few weeks.

Kayoss860 said...

Create a new account???

Titlexfight said...

no resident evils? instead they have bullshit like splinter cell. haha. well atleast they put ff7
