New sales data reveals that even PSP is outselling the PS Vita, more details inside........

The contrasting performances of the two handheld systems were revealed today when Sony confirmed to CVG that worldwide Vita sales stood at 2.2 million units as of June 30, 2012.The figure was originally provided to website PlayFront by PlayStation Germany's Uwe Bassendowski, although the article didn't specify a cut-off date for the sales.
Prior to the confirmation of 2.2 million Vita sales, the system's last publicly announced sales total was 1.8 million as of the end of Sony's financial year which concluded March 31.The new calculations means that the PS Vita sold about 400,000 units worldwide during April, May and June.
When combined with separate Sony data, it shows that the PSP is outselling Vita globally by a ratio greater than 2:1.In August, Sony told investors that combined Vita and PSP sales reached 1.4 million units during the three months in question.
Therefore PSP accounted for about one million of the total, or 71 per cent of Sony's handheld unit sales.In a new interview with CVG, PlayStation Europe CEO Jim Ryan said "we still have a significant PSP business in many markets, which is something that tends to be forgotten".
Earlier this month Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara said the company "would love" to be selling more Vitas, while SCEA chief Jack Tretton labelled Vita sales "acceptable".
Yet Sony still has high hopes for its acclaimed handheld. Ryan told CVG that a strong Christmas line-up, complete with Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified and Assassin's Creed Liberation, is expected to reinvigorate the retail performance of the new device.

This is happening because there are a lot of great PSP games that aren't on the Vita's PSN store. And like dumb asses Sony and others are still making and selling new PSP titles! Not to mention the PSP has TV output and FlashPlayer with its web browser and above all else is easily hackable!
To be honest, I prefer my PSP over the Vita because their are more games and in my opinion the PSP games are way better than the Vita games. I feel that the Vita would be better if it had the same games as the PS3.
Remind me to check on the PS Vita sales when Assassin's Creed, Killzone, Need For Speed and many other major titles that were announced at gamescom 2012 are released and trust me the PSP is going to be gone for good.
seriously vita has been out for only like 6 MONTHS and psp for like 5 YEARS so why are saying that stupid stuff?
i don't think people understand how good the vita is, i couldn't care for flash and html i bought the vita for the games and hardware, yes most people can't afford the vita and vita memory cards but hopefully we'll see a price drop before christmas and then the vita will be back in the game this i am sure of.
Two dreaded words will ultimately boost Vita. Much as I hate I admit it. A price drop for christmas is essential to get it to critical mass. It's a brilliant machine and I've had so much fun out of it, it is value for money, but the outlay is too high for many families.
(b',')b yep when metal gear solid HD collection came out and all my friends started playing peace walker again i said shit ill buy the PSP version on my vita and i'll be able to use the right joystick make shit so much easier, so go on PSN and im like....really? then NEED to understand picking and choosing games to go on PSN is fucking bull shit i would honestly buy all my games digital if i could but they dont have any of then on there i own so... wtf. i would love to get midnight releases on games from PSN save my ass some gas money not have to drive 20 mins to gamestop
The head of Sony Worldwide specifically said they aren't doing a price cut until after Christmas. Why, I don't know, but that's how it is.
Because the system being out longer is why it has a better library? Because the bigger pool of games on the PSP, which you can get for $60 refurbished, is why it's doing better? I don't see what's "stupid" here when Assassin's Creed and NFS aren't even out yet.
the only faith i havnt lost is that the vita game makers will always find a way to dissapoint me, black ops 4vs4 online, Resistance 4vs4 online,and then theres sony ohh you'll be able to play every game online with PSvita 3G, you can log into your PSN account and talk to your friends as if you were on a PS3 (yeah right they cant even see im on my vita and they think i sent it and went offline), so that means what i can voice chat with my PS3 friends from my PSVita? (WRONG THINK AGAIN!), can i use the text chat thing (WRONG THINK AGAIN! you only get Private Messages) just keep on dissapointing me i have faith you can do it
there will be no price drop this year as you can read in the post about how their cutting production of vitas down so they can cut prices in 2013 (i bet its only going to be by 50$) 200$ wifi, 250$ 3G way to punish the people who supported this thing in the beginning sony, no ohh heres a free game for buying our over prices paper weight well im not going to say paper weight becuase mine has been sitting on my PS2 cases holding them down. but yeah...
its like sony filters out games from port to port like back on PS1 we had every game, ps3 came out and ohh if you want them we have some of them on psn.... psvita comes out ohh well we wont have as many as were on ps3 psn but... heres the ones people bought the most, maybe they'll buy them again
same, i just want to play games on mine, if i want to do some hardcore internetting i use a damn computer, vita's web browser does fine for looking up and googleing shit.

Your right on the money with your statement! I yesterday sold off the last of my PSP UMD's. So I went looking on the Vita's PSN for Dragon Ball Z Another Road and of course it wasn't there along with both Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. Damn Sony's some straight up pimps! They lie to you and promise all kinds of shit they never plan on letting you fully enjoy while steadily snatching your money outta your hand while spitting some more game in your ear to keep you loyal to the same mother fucker slapping you with the powdered hand! Well I don't know about the rest of you but I'm only putting up with a little more before I take of this mini skirt and heels and sling this candy curl wig in the gutter lol!
Sony could be doing way more with the AR capabilities of the PSV. Then sales will go up.

This is only happening because of hacks and hombrew. You can get every psp game for free not to mention that you can play nes and snes and other emulators on it. Thats the only reason.
sony should just take psp off the market to help devs move over to the psvita and get people buying it.
the ps vita AR totally destroys the 3ds AR, in terms of speed and graphics and such. but the 3ds AR games are more fun :( its shooting AR's i mean, its better than fireworks and that cliff jumper. however ive not tried table top tanks and the other ps vita AR one yet, but i may get them soon :) see if they can top the 3ds ones
The only thing i see problematic about what you said are the midnight PSN releases... I know Sony has a robust server cluster... but depending on the game, some midnight releases could crash the whole thing... then everyone gets screwed... i don't know if it would work out so well..
If the PS Vita doesn't sell better by the end of 2012 than we can all say bye to anymore support from Sony or third party dev's. It's a Shame, it actually makes me mad how poorly the Vita is doing. Oh well, people fail to see how awesome the Vita is. all I see are 3DS and it's not even that good! Whatever. this holiday season will decide Vita's fate, let's all just hope it's a good one (which I doubt)
im sure they could do something like have the game downloadable for like a week before hand but have it locked untill the date so at 12:00 just jump on and play, if they have PSN+ games expire when you stop paying for PSN+ im sure they could do something like that.
oh yeah, i could see how that might work out. Just do the reverse of an expiry and have it become playable at the stroke of midnight.
