Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified "Looks a lot like Resistance"

IGN have had a chance to try our Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, and have published a hands on preview, more details inside..........

Article taken from IGN:
After watching a multiplayer match in Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, there was only one thing on my mind: This looks a lot like Resistance: Burning Skies, not Call of Duty.

The bombed-out buildings and on-fire alleyways of the Shatter multiplayer map definitely have a Black Ops vibe, but the pace, movement, and interface look just like developer Nihilistic Software’s upsetting last game.Burning Skies was lackluster for reasons beyond this, of course, but it’s an immediate red flag for Black Ops on Vita nonetheless.

Activision’s running theme when talking about Declassified is the word “classic.” Classic maps, classic features, classic Call of Duty.

This is because Declassified is more a sequel to Black Ops than it is a predecessor to Black Ops II. Multiplayer class loadouts differ from Black Ops II’s excellent new system, and seem in line with what current Call of Duty players know.

There are Kill Streaks rather than the new Score Streaks. Declassified boasts Free For All, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, and “classic modes” fans expect. The only thing immediately obvious as new was the map. It’s not that “new” is necessary for Declassified to be a good Call of Duty game. It’d just be nice to see something unexpected.

After all, Black Ops II is innovating in interesting ways, and having a tie-in game that feels like a stripped-down, older Call of Duty is a deterring factor for me, not an encouraging one.The debut trailer for Black Ops Declassified got me excited for multiplayer Call of Duty on Vita. Seeing it in action did nothing to excite me.

Very little about it stands out.Given Burning Skies’ unlikable online mode, I’m especially worried about Black Ops for Vita. I’ll wait until I get to spend time actually playing it before passing too much judgment, though. I’m all about the single-player side, any rate. It the story bridges the two Black Ops games, and will feature Mason, Hudson, and Woods in unspecified ways.

I liked that story and those guys, and I’m excited for Black Ops II. The Vita-specific features here are interesting too – the rear touch-pad is used to hold your breath while sniping, and you’ll share loadouts with friends via Near.

I can’t resist the Declassified campaign despite my concerns. I just wish I could say the same about multiplayer.

Let us know what you think of Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified so far in the comments below!

4x4 online is the most dissapointing feature. as the psp MOH could have 32 players on one map! Zombies is the only thing that will save this game

It is nothing more than a reskin of Resistance Burning Skies! And while that isn't the end of the world it isn't going to be a system seller either!

Hopefully they'l hear the fans and add it in before release, or as an update or dlc.

Bad news. Very bad news.

Developers need to stop usung this lame 4v4 multiplayer,The Vita can take much more players and seeing that no company cares about the Vita really sucks

I would have rather played call of duty 4 on my vita. That game was revolutionary.

Same developers and engine as from Resistance... This game will suck.

I can understand Sony re-hiring Nihillistic to produce the game since they have experience, but I cannot understand why Nihillistic would re-use the Burning Skies engine when clearly BS was a dissapointment for mostly everyone. It's lazy on Nihillistic's part and it shows that they're not really listening to what the fans are saying. The features of the game shown does little to please us, and some people are turning to Killzone instead, even though CoD BoD was often dubbed, "the system seller". The worst part about this is I don't own a 360 or PS3 to play CoD and I have issues with this.

Damn people quit getting you panties wedged in your ass it isn't like COD is the greatest game ever made shit damn! I mean Resistance Burning Skies is still till this day considered the best FPS on a handheld. And if they improved on the game play with COD it will take its place till Killzone Mercenary comes out. Cause there is noway in hell COD will top Killzone Mercenary!

Daniel Thunder said...

Yea i doubt it though :/

your reply to your previous comment contradict each other. you're being hypocritical

Try and defend it all you want, but Resistance BS was just that. BS.

That and MW2 were the best COD games made

Of course everyone will go for Killzone because we have gotten our hopes real high for the past few months and after seeing the trailer...we didn't even get an average call of duty...we got less than average, in other words a "Mediocre" call of duty just like Resistance Burning Skies so of course we'll go for Killzone instead because of the awesome gameplay...graphics and the Franchise lovers just like me so...saddly COD is just an Epic Fail for the time being.

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

No I didn't contradict myself. I'm just saying yes it is a downer COD isn't going to have PS3 quality graphics and only 4x4 multiplayer but that doesn't mean you COD lovers need to act like It's Ragnorok! Hell I own Resistance Burning Skies and I actually like it. But anyone with half a brain would have known with PS Vita's sells at the level they are now COD on the PS Vita wouldn't compare to the same game on PS3 & Xbox 360! So either buy the game or wait till something better cough cough Killzone Mercenary, or AC Liberation comes along.

Ezio-auditore00 said...

Im really happy to see this, but the only thing that bugs me is that nihilistic games is the developer. This is the reason i will not buy this game

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

I like your style of words which are all true! As I own Resistance Burning Skies and was let down as all of you COD fans are. Either buy it,or bitch and moan about it ,or say fuck it 2 tears in a bucket! And buy either Killzone Mercenary or AC Liberation. This very simple people very simple.

Stephen Allen said...

I liked Resistance Burning Skies too, i keep mentioning it to hopefully let people actually play it and give it a chance rather than take someones word on it.

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

Thank you Stephen for understanding what I was saying about Resistance Burning Skies being neither the greatest nor worse game ever made just like this COD!

We should all be happy we own PS Vita's! Come this fall our PS Vita's will be 5 consoles in one beast of a handheld. We'll have the ability to play and buy PS1 games, PSP games, PS Vita games , PSN Mini's, and last and in noway least Sony Mobile games. And if you think Sony Mobile is a joke I have to hurt your feelings as Sega aswell as EA and over 20 other developers are already onboard Sony Mobile! And I'll tell you my secret I own a Sony Xperia Play R800a which has PlayStation Suite soon to be Sony Mobile on it and packs over 450 quality games like GTA3, StarBatallion, Asphalt 5, 6, and 7 and maybe 8 by now and more on the way! Hell go to n4g.com as there are already 8 Sony Mobile demos you can download to your PS Vita right now.

Well I was hoping for a decent FPS, certainly after the disappointing Resistance Burning Skies, and what hurts the most is that COD on the Vita is developed by them,

and on top of that they brought in what people hated from Resistance BS to COD
The terrible visuals, the horrific sound quality and also the mundane multiplayer.
I still can't imagine how bad the game will be since they were developing Resistance and COD for the Vita simultaneously.
Well it seems like our only hope for a good FPS on the Vita is KillZone Mercenary, and thank god it's made by Guerrilla Games.

Distinct said...

I know buddy...I've been having faith in the Vita since day one, and unlike Activision I know that it will soon be the best handheld ever otherwise I wouldn't have bought it in the first place anywho I totally agree with you in terms of quality...software and advanced portable gaming which are all included in the one and only PS Vita I'm looking forward to the release of major titles like Killzone,Assassins's Creed 3: Liberation and Tearaway which will totally boos the Vita sales enormously.

Distinct said...

Why buy one of them when you can buy both? And besides to me these two are must haves and btw I own resistance burning skies as well and I regret buying it because of the rubbish quality...let's just say I can play a more smooth online FPS and enjoy it to the fullest on any other device but the Vita for now...

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

Thank you and here's another title you should check out with PS3 quality graphics coming to the PS Vita called Real Boxing! It looks beautiful and will hold us over till Fight Night.

bjthebear said...

Unit 13 style missions is just wrong. Its great for 30quid but for a COD title it is not acceptable. To me the missions are great but dont have an overlying story. That makes it shit, as its easier to make levels as you are not concentrating on keeping a story. The graphics too look shocking. Lazy devs IMO.

Stephen Allen said...

just like this cod  AS FAR AS WE KNOW,  it could be amazing, it could be terrible,  we'l see for ourselves soon :)

Stephen Allen said...

From looking on the website they only have one person doing the sound - where as they have 20ish programmers - might explain the sounds ;)

JustinConstantino said...

dude this game was already in production before all the complaints. it will probably be better than burning skies, but i do wish that one of the proven cod studios had developed this game. nihilistic is doing fine for a freelance developer, i think activision and its affiliates dropped the ball on this one. as for the mp i think there might be some software and server side problems limiting the games to 4v4, there are more to computers than just hardware. if they figure it out, they should aim for at least 5v5 or 6v6, with the best possible outcome being 8v8 or more. and i hope for zombies!

I honestly think Sony should have stuck with the Xperia play line and diched the vita all together. I have a vita and a play. The vita is a beast of a system but I have the play on me all the time and play it far more. Sony could have taken apples approach and made modest upgrades to the play each year. With subsidized phone planes more people could afford the play. Once people are vested in the line with game and software purchases they would be more likely to purchase future upgrades of the play. The vita is the wrong portable at the wrong time.

Just my opinion.

Forlom29 said...

Sorry for the misspellings.

Clarena Desir said...

no matter how dissapointed im with this game i still plan on buying it,because its cod

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

I agree with you fully and I too am a happy Sony Xperia Play R800a owner. The Vita's not a standalone cellphone and that hurts it in to days world! Not to mention our Xperia Plays have TV Output so they truely portable consoles and they allow WiFi tethering! Where as the Vita needs a WiFi hotspot or an AT&T plan. Again I agree with you all the way even though I own a 3G PS Vita.

Wtf 4x4 that's bullshit , we need 6x6 at least fuck this they better change b4 its too late

jamaljenkins said...

its not going to change, look at all that hate rbs got and they NEVER updated it, dont buy it so they go out of business

jamaljenkins said...

i buy phones to talk and text not to play games on it

Elronza Williams Jr. said...

That is where you are wrong the Xperia Play is a cross between a SmartPhone and a PSP and a PS3 in that it does HDMI output to a TV making it a true portable console! And the model I own the R800a is a 4G AT&T PlayStation awesome gaming device and the screen resolution is only slightly less than the PS Vita's at 800x480!

I love call of duty i'am a big fan of it to I have all the games in the main series except black ops 2. I love the tralier of black ops declassified it will be epic. And the thing i'am really hoping for is the see the final boss because black ops declassified takes place after black ops but before black ops 2 so if your wondering what hapend to the the black ops team then declassified is the game for you. the release date says December 31st at GameStop it may change due that the fact that may be a comfirmed date. Though if any body agrees with me on this but call of duty black ops declassified graphics kind of look like cod 4 mw1 but like how you reload and throw grenades the graphics are like black ops 1. But I hate games that when you climb a ladder it doesn't show you the hand of the climbing. Besides did you know killzone mercandary on vita coming out in 2013

4v4 is retarded for the ONLY multiplayer mode.

What Call of Duty needs to survive:

Zombies
4, 8, 16 player FFA
2v2, 4v4, 5v5. 6v6, 8v8
Kill Confirmed
Demolition
Hardcore Modes

4v4 as a game mode is fine, but it should NOT be the top end multiplayer mode.   If Nihilistic is trying to get $10 for the Call of Duty game, save yourself the agony and just buy the console version.   59.99 for a full Call of Duty game, or 49.99 for a stripped down portable version, the single player and zombies better stand out.   Afterall Zombies and Multiplayer are what make Call of Duty games great.  And if you can cross platform Zombies with PS3 players, that could make the game more worth it too.
