Sony Denies PS Vita Overheating Issues

Some new reports have been coming out of Japan which claim that a design flaw is causing some PS Vita's to overheat, more details inside......

Sony has recently denied reports that over 31 PS Vita's have been overheating, reports claim that the overheating is usually around the power connector. The overheating has been pinned on a design flaw however according to Sony's Japanese public relations department, the problem occurs when the pin is wet or covered in electrically conductive dirt. This causes the system to draw more power than would normally be the case, resulting in increased heat that can scorch - but not injure - the user's hand.

Has your PS Vita suffered from overheating? Let us know in the comments below!

How odd, just yesterday I let my computer have a shower and strangely it started overheating too after powering on.
This must be some coincidence

Yeah really strange, I find that mine overheats too when I am going down waterslides at the waterpark. Total design flaw, really..

Never had any issue with it, power or otherwise.

That fire would make a really cool skin for the Vita, actually. :p

Warm after like 5hrs of playtime...nothing like that. People need to take care of their shit better.

Another good one Snake! I live in Florida in the high humidity SouthEastern US. And this problem has happened to a few people I know. It happened to me aswell but I was lucky enough to save my Vita in time. I found that the problem is with Sony's plug that comes with the PS Vita. After switching to the NYKO Power Pack and Power Grip I've had nomore issues whatsoever! And anyone that wants to can read my account on the forum inside of the Little Big Planet PS Vita review.

I actually had an experience once,

I experienced this 1 week after buying the system, while playing wipeout(2hrs)Uncharted etc.
A message comes up saying that the system is too hot,Mobile network has been disabled.

Problem is,I have a psvita case/stand case that includes on the bundle pack, and I used the system while the rear cover of the case is covering the rear touch pad.XD

Others experience this because of too much using the system, also using it while the system is charging. .

I'm amazed that Sony put's a lot of validation on the psvita system.:D

My Vita has been through hell and back. Dropped, scratched, and rained on. Yet it's never overheated. Maybe it's because I charge it in my room? Not in the shower...

Mine has never overheated. But that's probably because I never switch it on.

IF YOU CHARGE ANYTHING WHILST PLAYING INTENSE GAMES ON IT, IT WILL GET VERY VERY WARM!  if your foolish enough to be playing games whilst having it charge for days on end without turning it off to the point of it melting its insides then fool you.  Its not just the vita, my 3DS also gets insanely warm whilst playing and charging. Thats why i do it no more.

i play my vita way too much and its very humid in georga the other people playing there vitas must be young or oblivious

Captain_Miffles said...

This only happens to me when I'm simultaneously charging and playing at the same time. The same goes for my iPod touch, so it's no surprise, really.

recall plz. then I could get a new ps vita that has taken pretty hard damage.

If I play it while it's charging for a couple of hours it will tend to get pretty warm. By then it will be charged so I unplug it. Then it goes down to it's normal temp. On a side note, I am not sure about the details of Vita's battery care details, but most smart device batteries go dead after repeated, i mean months of repeated extended use while plugged in. That has been my experience anyway since I've played alot of emulators on my phones. I am not sure if this is the case the Vita's battery, but just a word to the wise, don't leave your Vita plugged in all day while playing it. I could be wrong, and if I am someone let me know as I have not found anything that says other wise.

Lol, Mine has not overheated yet, I've had mine since the day it came out, 3G LE version, I kept it on the charger almost the whole time, yeah I take it off the charger when I go somewhere to take it with me, But turning it on or off for me, Nothing has happened, yet.

Well ill be sure not to use this website again. Sony definately addressed this saying "there will be no recalls as the issue seems to be with the transformer particularly when it gets wet" so dont attack sony saying the are denying this they just realize that japanese are less responsible in their coffin hotel rooms and drinkin mountain dew while gaming it up 31 is not an outstanding number and does not constitute a system or design flaw with ps vitas eveywhere ive never had an overheating issue and i run this thing to death. (typing this with my plugged in ps vita power box so cool id clench it with my ass cheeks.) check ur facts and gain some common knowledge buddy!

No issue here.

Nombea_alex said...

It's because of the RADIATED water.

Hmmm... Think im having this problem with my vita! When i soak the charger in water my vita begins overheating..... Must be a design flaw....

Ryer_t said...

Well don't let the door hit you on the wat out.  Psvitahub is making the claim but passing the news on.  For the purpose of us to comment on.  I seriously doubt Snake is rallying the 31 people that had an issue with damp pin and storming Sony's gates with picket signs and protests.
