Pre-orders for Sony's PS VITA Wi-Fi only model have risen by 48%, though many thought that pre-orders will not be anything special due to the recent PS3 price drop. Those theories seem to be quite inaccurate.
Though many of you might not really care about the increased popularity, you have to keep in mind that the more pre-orders the system receives the more interest the system will get from 3rd party developers.

For example Hideo Kojima has hinted that he would like to work on a PS VITA game. And if the system gets more pre-orders, its more likely we could see Metal Gear Solid PS VITA.
