PS4 Controller Expected To Emulate PS Vita
Some details have surfaced regarding Sony's PS4 controller design, more details inside...........
For the PlayStation 4, Sony is thought to be changing the design of the DualShock controller quite drastically, though. Two sources have confirmed that the PS4 controller will attempt to emulate the controls offered on the PS Vita, while at the same time adding biometrics and a display.
If true, and we must stress this is just speculation and rumor, we could see a very different looking DualShock shipping with the console. If it emulates the PS Vita, we’ll see a touch panel added to the rear of the controller, and a touchscreen LCD on the front. Adding biometric sensors will likely mean a more “grippy” controller to ensure at least a couple of your fingertips are in constant contact with the sensors.
Adding such new functionality could mean we end up with a controller that looks a lot like the Wii U GamePad, but with the styling of the PS Vita. Such a pad is also going to cost significantly more to manufacture and would see the price of the PS4 remain quite high through its lifetime. Buying an additional controller is also going to be more expensive if this actually happens.
Does Sony need to do this? I can’t see the real benefit, personally. The biometric sensors could add something, but then they could be added without much of a DualShock design change. It’s also worth reminding everyone Sony did file a patent for biometric controllers back in November 2011, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them using the tech. We may even get one that’s capable of turning hot and cold.
Let us know what you think of this controller design in the comments below!

So basically this is going to decrease sales of the PS Vita even more
I'm sick of this talk of ps4. Dont need one dont want one.
Wii U copy........
tnx sony u gonna kill the vita!!
Hopefully like WiiU they keep the option for old gen controllers. That rendering has no bumpers :/
I don't want this as a main controller, as much as I like the PS Vita, I can't really see myself getting attached to something similar as the PS4's controller. As long as it's something that is optional, I'll be fine, but if this is the only PS4 controller, I might be a bit disappointed.
dammit sony... dont make my 300$ vita obsolete... and please dont turn the PS4 into a high powere wiiu...
The dual shock is already way overpriced considering the ps4 is nearly here. In the UK the average price of a Dual Shock is £43 which is WAY to expensive for a pad. I can't see them doing this as like someone said the vita will be pretty much useless. I think (and hope) they will use the vita the same way the WiiU uses the gamepad - Remote play...which we all thought we were getting with ps3 + vita anyway.
Same I thought this was PSVITAhub not SONYPRODUCTShub
Yep just want technology to stay the same and never evolve.
I'm sick of this talk of PS1. Dont need one dont want one.
I'm sick of this talk of PS2. Dont need one dont want one.
I'm sick of this talk of PS3. Dont need one dont want one.
In other words SHUT UP! The world doesn't revolve round what you want.
So, this article cites 'two sources', then links to only one, which subsequently cites a single 'anonymous source'.
Games 'journalism', eh?
make docking controller that fits vita that gonna make sale high
when i saw the pic i was like this is the best controller cover for the vita ever then i read the title hopefully it is just an accessory that u buy for ps4 if u already have the vita that would be cool but id rather it be a casing for the vita
Most Wii U games only use the gamepad
I feel the PS Vita will bePS4 controller.
Not necessarily, it could affect the Vita the other way around. After trying out the PS4 and it's controller, a lot of people would want an experience similar to that on the go, and nothing else can replicate that need than the Vita itself. Which could as a result increase the sales of the Vita.
hey you know that hand held thats failing horribly? lets make more shit just like that its so stupid its gotta work
This controller needs a PSVita game card slot :P
that sounds so horrible nothing beats the feel of my ps3 controller that controller and free online are the only 2 reasons the PS3 even sells
hey it could be a casing that goes on the vita that could explain the 2nd port hole at the top of the vita? if this is true it could be pretty awesome
this is a dumb move for sony. looks like a knock off wiiu gamepad. just keep the same controller. sony isnt thinking straight. why did they make a vita if they were just gonna copy nintendo.
It's going to be an optional controller as you will still be able to use the dualshock3 controller. But it's obviously all still rumours.
Mhmm
Yes, it would be a pretty cool feature that only works with the users who own a Vita.
LOL, There's no L2 R2 buttons.
why dont they just make the vita the controler push vita sales and stuff higher
ratonhnhaké ton has a point...
Sounds believable they might be following the root of the wii u which brought some wicked advantages to gameplay
Sony is not smart enough for that. They'll instead change the comfortable Dualshock to a huge, non-ergonomic tablet that will just decrease Vita's sales. They'll basically finish it off with friendly fire. I'd not be surprised if that actually happened. Sony is stupid the last year, they didn't handle the Vita at all.
if this pic is real then why is there only l2/r2 so this might be just a cover for psvita to connect to the ps4
(Orbis = ps4) right , translates from Latin as Orbis = circle
Vitae(Vita) = life ok so Orbis Vitae = 'circle of life'. I'm just saying
did u forget about the Tsunami that what messed up the Vita cause people were busy repairing their lives to worry about video games like they should be.
Hopefully we get an option to use the duel shock cause it's the best controller by far.
This rumor and speculation is making me ambiguously emotional on a nonspecific theoretical level.
sounds dumb, but it's almost sorta necessary..i guess
BAAAAAAAAAA SOWENYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MAMAMEEETSEEBABAAAAAAAAAAA
In my opinion the controller that is shown on top is similar, this was I expect the controller's feature would be like compared to the wii u.
-less rounded and more edged
-playstation analog layout
-smaller in size
-screen will be resistive touch screen
-some form of led and the back to be used like the move/duelshock concept .
anyone else think this should have been ps vita design or ps vita a grip
In the article, it says, "If true, and we must stress this is just speculation and rumor..."
I agree with u at least a bigger analogy stick .pause
Oh my god
SITIWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOAANNNNNNNYYAAAAAAAAAAAA
Uhh... Did you forget how to speak English? And N3DS? Isn't that a gaming handheld?
What the hell.....
Wow you're a very smart man even though you got your comment from countless gaming sites!
then every controller would cost $200+. nobody has the money for a second controller and then you will be very lonely because if you are at home with a friend, one of you will have to sit and watch and will fall asleep
If they are trying to emulate the PsVita, why not just include one controller and for those who have a Ps Vita can use it as a controller for the PS 4. It would save some people money and possibly I courage others to buy a Ps Vita...idk just a thought
I think this would be good.
would make the cross controller stuff for real.
every game on a PS4 could use the Vita, because effectively it has all the parts on the VIta that the new one would have.
except the biometric stuff
fucken shit i already bought a vita
Who said I discovered it by myself ? lol,i was just saying ^^
btw yes i found it on http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/ps4-release-date-news-and-rumours-937822
You guys truly made me lol
I find it hard to believe. This feels more like a straw grab for page views. They expect Sony to do the same thing as Nintendo and come out with an accessorized controller. I just don't see it happening. The vita is already a viable platform and it currently connects to the PS3, there's no reason why it won't be compatible with the PS4. There's got to be un-tapped featured of the Vita that they are saving for the PS4 integration.
I just can't see Sony launching with a controller like this. You saw how well the move did. I don't think more hardcore console gamers want to deal with a ridiculous controller with all kinds of gizmos all over it.
This could be a great move, if they give the option of also using the vita itself as a controller, and able to use its screen as an extra TV it will boost sales, and will be fantastic at the same time. Multiplayer options will be superb. I would by a vita if this all comes true.
I feel like this is probably the inspiration to this rumor in the first place. I'm sure they want people to have a Vita and a PS4 to "maximize their playing experience" like they are trying to do with the PS3 now. Unfortunately that means that people who don't want a new console will have to suffer through the marketing crap that would be great for people with both.
If this actually happens, the Vita as a standalone will more than likely suffer while it's compatibility with the new console will take the limelight.
no, because if u have this controller, you can easyer use the cross play.
You can transfer the gamedata from the ps4 to the vita and continue playing on road...
Sorry for bad English.
Ok lets think outside the box shall we?
I have a vita, I will buy PS4.
I have Marvel vs Capcom on my vita, I will "plug" my vita to my PS4 and play on big screen.
My friend do not have a vita or Marvel vs Capcom, he sits beside me pick up a PS4 joystick and join the game.
I WANT THAT! That is what I think is coming with PS4 and all this rumor of new dual shock.
The new dual shock joy must have all the inputs vita has but not the screen, its not a must, if you want screen on your joystick you buy a vita right? Soooo what we have is WiU on freaking steroids and with real games with fucking cool graphics and not kid stuff like nintendo.
Or even playing final fantasy on my PS4 and have battle info and maps available on my vita screen while I play on my big screen with my PS4.
All that is just too obvious for me, maybe Im dreaming but I do belive we are getting this with PS4.
Sony would be stupid to use control-style for a portable device on a home console. We need a real gaming control to play long hours. The rear-touch is a screwed-up. Sony should have added the R2 and L2 on the PS Vita instead of the rear-touch bullshit. Why redesigning the PS4 controller? The PS3 controller is perfect. Screw that biometric and the LCD screen. Who cares! I don't want to pay a lot more for something that is not needed. Just give me the PS4 with a PS3 controller! Damn you Sony! and also don't lock the PS4 down like the rest of your other consoles so we can play some good retro gaming on it!!! Are you listening Sony!
wrong choice sony , how sad
R2 L2 R3 L3? Using the touchpad is a bitch .. so why not keep things original ? Sony is falling off
Ooohhhh I want nothing more then my hands to go from hot to cold.. There trying to damn hard.. I love the PS ...but if they keep this up 720 is going to wipe the floor with the PS
Good point
Agree..
This isn't going to effect the vita anymore the the ds effects the wii
But the upside would be that this controller could be taken everywhere and even play your games.
