Pachter: "PS Vita Too Expensive For Most"

Industry analyst Micheal Pachter reveals his thoughts regarding PS Vita pricing, more details inside..........
"Vita’s too expensive for most, priced pretty much the same as the PS3 everywhere. While I think the Vita is a good value and a great device, when compared to the PS3 it’s pretty expensive.
"Also, there is not much of a library of games, so sales will probably be slow until we see more content."
Do you agree with him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I agree, i was thinking between vita and 3ds, and didnt bought vita because of the poor games (Ragnarok and Phantasy star are taking too long to release US) and the the bigger price

Menttolove said...

No shit!!! Everyone knows we need more game... I'm still very pissed about Sony locking out remote play!!! Can't get over it...

MrKoopan said...

there's no disagreeing with this, it is too expensive, and no one will buy one until at least christmas, unless they're rich, or a "hardcore" gamer

Adam Malik said...

agreed :D
at least include a 4GB memory card with the system if there's no price cut

DS_KILLA said...

the devs have to add the remote play feature so its not  sonys problem your mad and this dude is trippin its not to expensive, inless your cheap. vita is way better then DS. if you dont like the vita thats your own fault. its the best handheld gaming system made.

Themahonster said...

I agree. ive got a pSV and some games but games are VERY expensive. id say theyre too expensive (since ps3 games are pretty much the same price). Once they lower the price, which always seems to happen after a while, they will see sales skyrocket - hopefully

C-Sword said...

What the Vita needs is a new Kingdom Hearts game, it sure will help increase the sales

Daniel Thunder said...

Yes the vita needs more games, prices could be better too, sonys greed could be their downfall

Barrett50callum said...

They already do that

Dark Rift said...

it will only take one, Monster Hunter and they'll see such a big increase....

Daniel Thunder said...

shout out to jade "hi!" lol

ReDDeE said...

Remember the 3ds at launch?

$249.99

Get over it already

PsVita will drop in price
Stop crying its too expensive, I'm not rich and I manage to get one, it's called saving money!

Also the whining about need more games, you do know developers don't just shit out a game and say "Here! More games because you're complaining!" Cause you guys complain the game isn't good enough! It's all ppl seem to do is complain for everything!

If you think the vita is too expensive but you really want one. You can:
A. Extra cash you have, don't spend it on "useless items"
B. Wait until a price drop!

If you believe the Vita does not have much games. You can:
A. Go on gamespot.com and look at the list of upcoming titles and get the vita when you feel there is a game you really want or there is a library of games u believe will satisfy you!
B. just don't buy a Vita!

Come on people should know by now how Sony works!
I hope this will make at least a few people understand, and will hopefully help some who really want a Vita go "oh I should of thought of that" and be on a merry trip to someday obtaining a vita,. You never know! As your saving your money, there might be a price drop and TADA!!! you have enough to run to the store the next day and buy one!!!

All depends on your age, incomes and how you live.
Theres no way i would have been able to afford a vita when i was younger (17 and younger) as i only got around £10 from each family member and £40 from parents, meaning £100 for my birthday, which means i would've have to of waited 3 birthdays (THREE YEARS) in order to get one.
But now I'm a bit older, I've saved some money up from part time job, and have some student loan, so:
When i was younger - yes vita is expensive!
Now when I'm older - No, vita is not expensive!

Well maybe it still would've been expensive if i was paying rent (was £4000 for a year last year) - which made me have barely any money left over for such vita things.
Thank god I've moved back home, saved £4000+    £230 from that for the vita is nothing.

Stephen Allen said...

Depends on peoples internet connection speed and such, remote play playing games for people with high speeds will run smoothly, however people with lower speeds will get staggeringly bad frame rates. Maybe there just looking for a way around this, as I'm sure if they release the vita stating it comes with ps3 remote play, some twat with 52kb dialup will end up suing them as remote play doesn't work for him.

Arc_huda said...

I dont think the ps vita is expensive that much cuz think about it wen u get other console such as ps3,xbox or wii then u cant jus play soon as u get it, it requires a TV so think about whoever pays for a tv + any of the console it will cost considerably more, and the ps vita with the OLED touch screen is pretty neat for the price...

I'm not rich and I got one, a 4gig card and a game so yeah.....shuddup

Rushmore_1373@hotmail.com said...

i totally agree i also own 1 and cant wait for more games.this was the one i wanted before when the psp was broght out what a waste that was when all it needed was a second analog control.your still the best second to none way to go sony keep it up

I am not rich and got 2 one for me and one for my wife . If u want something u,will find a way . If u can't afford it than u don't need it . Most people that I know that has a vita is older . 3ds is wat my niece and nephew has . need more games but no Rush gotta make sure they are not rushed .

Menttolove said...

I wouldn't mind paying 4 to 5 hundred for the vita as long as it did what they said it will do out the box! "remote play" they said you would be able to and then turn around and shit on everyone who purchased it!!!

The president of Nintendo said that the 3DS is still underperforming, especially outside of Japan, despite outpacing the Vita by 3-to-1 each week in global sales. Even cutting that $250 price by $80 hasn't been enough to put the 3DS on solid footing--and the company just posted a loss for the latest quarter.
That's the market that Sony is selling the Vita in--one where even Nintendo's stranglehold on the handheld market isn't enough. And considering the Vita costs as much as a PS3, has no built in memory, and there are still several big games (COD, Assassin's Creed) that aren't coming out until fall at the earliest, I don't see what's wrong with his assessment. The numbers certainly back him up.Sony has no room to be cocky right now.

SMGGMS1 said...

What the vita real needs to avoid loses and price cuts

is full support to PSone titles

Then, full PSP titles with all regions not randomly like now ( they claim some great psp titles are not working on Vita on USA/UK store but THEY ARE ALL OVER Saudi Arabia/ME stories and alot cheaper ) so stop telling lies :)

After the 2 things mentioned aboved checked and done ? you see more PS vita sales and more real PS vita titles and support form community and devp alike.

whenever I ask someone about buying Vita, they simply say : why would I ? no psone full support no psp full support, no real great many titles at Vita to keep it busy.

Sethteitan said...

Every one is expecting a price drop on the vita and I dont think that is gonna happen anytime soon because is against sony's corporate ideology. Maybe like in 3 years you will see some changes in prices depending on the numbers they sale.

John Sharp said...

A FUKIN MAN AMEN i like this see people actually want vita to fail which is sad, they claim that sony doesnt back up their product (PS VITA) well i tell you what. its called patience and money like this person said SAVE or DONT GET ONE. i mean really? the gaming companies are really not gonna push out games just to satisfy the cry babies. and i also agree that the reason for the lack of games is because the companies want to produce good quality games not just ports and rush outs. and if you watched the E3 conference SONY had a good amount of VITA titles on hand and every company spokesman said that they "did not want to rush the game out to the public to see it fail, we want games that have replay value as well as take advantage of the PS VITA's software and hardware and the game will release when we feel that the game is right and ready for the public." SO to conclude. i say this, if you are a handheld person DO NOT BUY, if you are not a person that manages money properly DO NOT BUY, if you are impatient and in a hurry DO NOT BUY and if you want the PS vita to fail, DO NOT BUY , stick with nintendo or xbox where they dont care about product quality and production as much as their consumers like SONY

Lol said...

the quarterly loss isn't because of the console price, its because nintendo just this month started breaking even and can now possibly start selling the 3DS at a gain. The Wii isn't Breaking barriors anymore because the WiiU is in the horizons, and the loss is because of all the heavy development theve been doing for both the 3DS and WiiU.

The market will be fine.
the DS struggled to get its foot in, just like the psp did in their early years.

Wait about till October there will be some games worth picking up, for me at least P4G, ACL, LBP

Mcikes said...

The library sucks, I regret getting one at launch.

gigantor21 said...

Neither the devices nor the market are the same as they were back in '04 and '05, though. The economy was better, and other mobile devices like cell phones have far more functionality than they did 8 years ago. Thus the game library is even more important since most smartphones are very capable web/multimedia devices now (not that it was NEVER important, but still...).

That Sony never considered built in memory at the prices they expected for both the cards and the system, despite the 3DS's big price advantage, is just mindboggling to me. I'm just glad big retailers are willing to take the initiative on including cards/games with the system themselves. It's going to be very interesting seeing what effects the Fall/Winter releases have on sales. Will they go up high enough to justify the price tag, or be proof positive that the Vita was too expensive--and that they'll have to eat a price drop too? We'll just have to see.

MrKoopan said...

I have one, I'm not rich, I didn't use the best metaphor, sorry, but honestly, it is still over priced

I got my ps3 for less brand new, like pachter said
it needs a price cut

MrKoopan said...

I have a vita, a 3ds,and all that other stuff, I'm not rich, I earned my money, but it needs a price cut for what we're getting

the ps3 costs less than a vita, that's sad
no one will buy it right now though, maybe people you know, but that really isn't all that much when you put it into the entire world and the vita's poor sales
if they want to make money, they could at least lower the price to $200, so that they can stand up against the 3ds

broski said...

I agree that vita is expensive. I wish that this article came before vita launch because I already have it.

mjmb said...

no, a monster hunter game and a awesome call of duty game would sell vitas like hot cakes. i really believe that if the black ops 2 declassified has a solid ,substantial and important campaign plus zombies and a good multiplayer then it will become a system seller. monster hunter by itself can do wonders over in japan

ratchetruler said...

It's always been too much for me to afford and will be for quite a while, it's sort of annoying as I really would love a PS Vita. But I can dream right?

Cheapest I've seen here in NZ is $428.00 though I don't look much, it's just so mesmerising! Not going into detail about why I can never make that kind of money, but I'm just going to have to wait for a price drop, and then hopefully someday get one for Christmas, though that's one gigantic Christmas present!

Elron said...

How's the Vita too costly when I know people that have had 4 or more piece of shit Xbox360's? I guess people are gluttons for being screwed! And the Vitas specs are better than the PS3's so the cost is justified. My only compliants is that Sony's big name first and 3rd party developers need to make games for this beast of gaming. And a better web browser is a must. Aswell as the ability to use the Vita as a standalone phone as Skype sucks as I either have to use WiFi or pay AT&T for 3G and then pay Skype just to call my grandmas house phone as Skype only lets you do mobile to mobile calls for free. And the memory cards are too damn costly! And until Sony addresses these issues it will be hard going for PS Vita in this SmartPhones rule world!

Elron said...

And yes to all the mindless Sony drones I'm an early adopter who has owned his 3G PS Vita in the USA since Feb.15/2012! And I own over 15 Vita games, well over 30 if my wifes 3G Vita counts aswell so I've put my money where my mouth is but I'm not digging the taste of Sony right now!

whadya say said...

I'm an early adopter and proud! There may not be any games for it but the hardware is awesome enough! I can just sit and turn it on and be satisfied for hours. Feb. 15 is my new anniversary. In fact my Vita majorly helped me make this post. I love it!

At christmas everyone one will be wanting a vita! Wait and see therw will be a largr amount of awesome games to purchase. Im not complaining i personaly love the vita and have a massive bank of games on it with my 32gb memory for it! Disgea 3, rayman, gravity rush are amazing games! To name but a few..and when psone classics come out over "summer" ill be getting ffvii! I cant wait! I personally had a 3ds and tradded it in for my psvita! And i have never looked back! Sure the 3ds had zelda and mario. But after you get passed the gimmic of 3d wich i ended up not even using after a while it turns out to be a prity shallow handheld...the psvita has soooo much potential! I mean look at the graphics it can out put at such an early stage of its development! (uncharted, wipeout to name a few)
People stop hating the system! It is just a baby! You gotta let it grow man!

oh of course it isn't, but the 3DS has manage to sell more than the original DS did at this time in its life time. I do agree that the Vita is a Tad Expensive, a $50 price cut would go a long way, but gaming isn't a must, So if the price tag is to high people should just wait for price cutor save up. the fall should be great for both handhelds though, heavy hitters on both teams will be releasing then.

insanerob said...

Not sure I 100% believe this ... Sony have chosen to make it the Dev's problem  .... if it just worked and Dev's had to disable the feature then how many of them actually would ? Remember that with a hack people are already playing PS3 games on their vita using remote play .... and there is no legal argument for not having remote play work when your in the house as far as I can tell . The Vita could just appear as a normal controller to the PS3 using Bluetooth and the ps3 stream sound and video to the screen over wifi (something that is already possible using HDMI streamers) . To me it seems that Sony don't have the time or money to invest in things that don't directly result in profit. Hopefully their announcement following the WiiU stuff will lead to remote play at home at least.

i think people just like to complain.
there people aren't looking at what you are getting for the price of the vita now, and it will only improve.
does any other console provide a portable dual stick gaming experience......no; a console with a decent easy to use browser (shure, flash would be nice).......no; 3g on any other game console?..........no; and a built in gps unit with free maps and the ability to find others near you?.........no.
and i haven't even started on games!!!
let's not forget what you CAN do with a Vita before we gripe too much!!!

Travis Dickson said...

Most of ya'll must be broke, or don't understand electronics at all if your complaining about the price!  Think about it.  You could go buy a desktop for $800.  If you went to buy a laptop with the same specs as the desktop, your probably looking at around $900-$1200.  Why?  Because it's portable and convenient, and especially powerful.  If you can't afford it, don't complain.  Save up for it.  Great things are WORTH waiting for.  If you can't wait, buy a "B" class portable like a 3ds (which are garbage)!

John Sharp said...

i agree with you JT and personally i dont like the 3d feature on the ds and i am not a fan of playing games in 3d because i dont have contacts therefore it hurts my eyes when i play for about 30 minutes and thats inconvienent to me cause i dont have a home console and i liek to game alot longer than 30 minutes on a handheld so that is why i gotr the vita, the scree looks gorgeous and the software is fluid and responsive and the hardware is up to par with the now generatrion of gamers and the vita is me and i love my vita and i do not mind that the vita does not have that many games right now as i am patient and waiting cause from august till the end of the year the games will come and the system will be what everyone wants.

what I don't get is how people can fork over 600 or 1000 for an iPad yet complain that a vita is over priced. smh

Warcen2008 said...

the vita is not to expencive. just buyed the new iphone (finaly !!!!!) the cost was more then times the vita. so dont understand it realy. because eweryone has money to iphone, tvs, ipads. the vita cost the half or less and people say its expencive ? the processor built inn to the vita i twice the power off most phones and tablets and it has to cost more, but still its half the price of almost any new phone out there.

I've got the Vita and 3ds, personally i prefer the Vita but I'm not disappointed in the 3ds however. Its a major improvement from my little sisters pink ds lite which i had previously been using. I wear glasses/contacts and the 3d hurts my eyes and at some times doesn't even work at all? i might be slightly bog-eyed or something i don't know..  the 3d side of it is a gimmick to me, nice to see the menus and such in 3d, but then it goes off to play games.  Oh and the analogue stick on the 3ds sucks, you have to force it to move about and such (in comparison to the vita where its analogue sticks glide with perfection :D  )
both have good and bad points, mainly got the 3ds for pokemon and the odd game or so. But the vita is my main portable console.

gigantor21 said...

I just want the Vita to have a better showing than it's predecessor, as the 3DS doesn't appeal to me at all. I'd much rather take the more powerful system with console-style controls on hand with the touch stuff--especially with all the time I've put in on my PSP. I just don't know if $250 is the right price point right out of the gate.

Lol said...

I own both, and can honestly say I'm getting more use out of my vita than my 3DS, its not that it isn't good, I'm just waiting for the Paper Mario, and Luigis mansion. till then, its collecting dust, but I digress, in my opinion the price of Vita is fine. its not like the 3DS, its actually a powerhouse. If tge games don't appeal to you though, just wait till winter season, by then we'll probably even have official bundles.

MarcusGOW said...

The Vita is not really all that expensive. I think people who say its not worth the $249 are stupid. The fact is that the Vita is worth every penny because it has amazing tech behind it, i am glad the Vita isnt getting a price drop anytime soon. The only reason why the Vita is not selling is because the lack of the right marketing and the lack of releasing knowledge to the public on more upcoming games as they should. Sony likes keeping secrets til the time is right, this could hurt them or help them. In the Vita's case, it is hurting them. Also, about the marketing, the Vita has PS3 quality graphics and PSN compatibilty along with A console type control format and PS3 quality games. Those 4 features should be the main marketing points for the Vita. It seems that Sony is making all but those impressions on their marketing...what a waste.

Echonights2236 said...

honestly the psp emulation should have all of the fukkin games on ps vita, not just these no name titles, i me come on they dont even have fat princess or ne of the good games, just the shit no one wants, even if theres no good vita games out now they should have opened the psp library up the day vita was launched if there gona have a 250$ price tag, if i could play all of my old psp games i wouldnt care about the wait on vita games, tell me im wrong? sony always put out the first gen of a system that could do everything and slowly take stuff away in later years, just like the first gen ps3, its like there giving us a good system wit nothing to play on it...the 3ds had alllllll of the ds games, it could play even alot of the digital DS games, and they could be downloaded the second u bought the system....the only good game on vita right now is probably injection, and mayb mod nations...

Echonights2236 said...

other then that the only good thing the vita is good for is OLED porn at this point :-)

how could you say psvita is too expensive at $250 but are willing to shed +$500 for a freakin phone!!. keep telling yourself you made a good deal while playing angry birds; ill be busy playing uncharted, assasins creed, killzone, cod, bioshock, and every other blockbuster coming to psvita.

well said, pisses me off how nintendo manages to sell so many of these 3ds crap to ignorant people who in most part know little or nothing about gaming, just because theyre selling it dirt cheap. imagine your a hard working single mom. your kid keeps naggin he wants a portable; you gonna buy him a $250 vita or a hundred dollar cheaper 3ds? you dont give a damn its its garbage, or if theyre selling you a bunch of ports of 12 year old n64 games, as long as it shuts your kid up.
